SUBMISSION POLICIES
Applicants
-
Submissions are open to lens-based artists who are at least 18 years of age and currently reside within the United States. International submissions are not being accepted at this time. Both emerging and established photographers are eligible to apply.
-
No-Type is committed to showcasing a broad range of voices and lived experiences. Photography is strongest when it reflects many perspectives, and we actively encourage submissions from artists of all backgrounds, identities, abilities, and communities — especially those historically underrepresented in the arts.
Submitted Work
-
Submitted work must be created through a photographic or lens-based process, including but not limited to film, digital capture, archival materials, and alternative photographic methods. AI-generated images or work produced primarily through generative technologies are not eligible for consideration.
-
All submitted work must be created and shared in a manner that respects the individuals and communities depicted. Submissions may be disqualified if they violate ethical standards; compromise privacy, dignity, or safety; contain hateful, discriminatory, or harmful content; exploit vulnerable communities; or include false or misleading information. Entries may also be withdrawn in cases of inappropriate or abusive conduct during correspondence.
-
All submitted work must be the original creation of the entrant. Entrants are responsible for holding all necessary rights and permissions for the images they submit, including obtaining consent from any identifiable individuals when legally required.
-
No-Type is a highly curated publication, and submission does not guarantee acceptance.
Production
-
All editorial decisions — including but not limited to selection, sequencing, cropping, design, and layout — are made at the sole discretion of the magazine’s editorial team. Decisions are guided by the thematic direction of the issue, production considerations, and the overall cohesion of the publication.
-
Minor technical adjustments may be applied to submitted images as part of the publication and production process. These adjustments may include color correction, tonal balancing, sharpening, or layout-related cropping in order to achieve consistent print quality and ensure visual cohesion across the issue. No significant edits that alter the meaning, content, or intent of the work will be made without first contacting the artist for approval.
-
Production timelines, layouts, or related processes may be modified as needed to ensure the quality and integrity of the final issue.
Rights & Liability
-
No-Type holds the copyright to all original text, design, and imagery created for its website, publications, and related materials. Artists retain full copyright to all work they submit. By submitting, you grant No-Type a non-exclusive, irrevocable, royalty-free license to reproduce, publish, and display selected images in print and digital formats for this issue, as well as for related promotion and archival purposes. All contributors will be fully credited. No-Type will not sell, license, or distribute your images for any unrelated purpose without your permission.
-
By submitting your work, you acknowledge that you are solely responsible for any legal claims, disputes, or liabilities that may arise from the images you provide, including but not limited to copyright, privacy, or rights-related issues. You agree to indemnify and hold No-Type harmless from any such claims, damages, or expenses that may result from your submission or participation.
Submission Fees
-
The submission fee is $15 per artist and covers the upload of up to five images. This fee supports No-Type’s independent publishing model, contributes to editorial compensation, and helps the magazine remain ad-free.
-
Submission fees are non-refundable under any circumstances, including but not limited to non-selection, withdrawal, incomplete submissions, or disqualification for policy violations.
